Firing in Sandeshkhali leaves 5 security personnel injured

Violence broke out late Tuesday night in the Sandeshkhali area of West Bengal, just two days after the 2026 Assembly election results, raising serious concerns about law and order. As per reports, unidentified miscreants opened fire on a police patrol team, leaving five security personnel injured.
The incident reportedly took place in the Bamangheri area under Nazat Police Station limits, where tension had been building since the afternoon due to political unrest after the election results. A team of police officers along with central forces was on routine night patrol when they were suddenly targeted.
Among the injured were Officer-in-Charge Bharat Purkait, another officer Bhaswat Goswami, a woman police officer, and two CRPF jawans. All of them were first taken to a nearby rural hospital and later shifted to government hospitals in Kolkata for better treatment, as per reports.
Following the incident, security has been tightened in the area, and additional forces have been deployed to prevent further violence. Police and central agencies have also launched search operations to trace the attackers, who are still unidentified.
Reacting to the situation, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has reportedly directed all senior officials to remain alert and ensure peace. He has also asked authorities to continue patrolling in the affected areas.
