A couple and their three daughters tragically died in a massive fire that broke out in a five-storey building in the Gandhi Nagar locality of Kanpur.

According to initial reports, the building housed a shoe manufacturing unit on the lower floor, while the upper floors served as residential areas. The fire is believed to have started due to a short circuit and quickly engulfed the entire structure.

Multiple fire tenders were rushed to the scene and worked for several hours to douse the flames and rescue those trapped inside. Senior police officers and fire department officials were present at the site, overseeing the rescue operation.

Firefighters discovered the bodies of Mohammad Danish, his wife Nazneen Saba (42), and their three daughters –Sara (15), Simra (12), and Inaya (7) –on the fourth floor of the building.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire. Initial suspicion points to a short circuit or faulty internal wiring. Reports also suggest that an LPG cylinder explosion further intensified the blaze.

Residents of more than half a dozen nearby buildings were also evacuated as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety.
