An Election Commission of India (ECI) order to remove several posts made by political leaders on social media site X has stirred controversy.
X recently flagged and removed posts from the YSR Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party, N Chandrababu Naidu, and Bihar’s deputy chief minister, Samrat Chaudhary.
The Congress raised objections over this action and has alleged that this removal is related to the electoral bond scheme.
Commenting on the ECI’s decision, the party spokesperson stated that the removal of posts was seen as an attempt to silence criticism of the government regarding the electoral bond issue.
The spokesperson drew out a striking coincidence between the removal of the posts, which were specifically questioning the electoral bond issue on the platform.
Meanwhile, X has stated that the posts were removed for violating the code of conduct.
