‘Do whatever you want’, Iran prez tells Trump, rejects negotiations with US
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has firmly rejected any negotiations with the US under threats, telling former President Donald Trump to “do whatever the hell you want,” Iranian state media reported on Tuesday.
It is unacceptable for us that the US gives orders and makes threats. I won’t even negotiate with them. Do whatever the hell you want, Pezeshkian was quoted as saying.
His comments follow a statement by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who reiterated that Tehran would not be bullied into talks. This came a day after Trump revealed he had sent a letter urging Iran to engage in negotiations on a new nuclear deal.
Despite Trump expressing openness to dialogue, his administration has reinstated the maximum pressure campaign to isolate Iran and cripple its economy by driving down its oil exports.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi confirmed that he received a letter from Trump regarding nuclear negotiations. The letter was delivered by Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE president, in the presence of Iranian officials, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency.
Araghchi emphasized that Iran has always been open to negotiations under equal terms. He noted that Iran continues discussions with France, Britain, and Germany on the nuclear issue, while also engaging with other international stakeholders.
Iran's nuclear program remains within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and continues to progress, Araghchi added.
The 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was abandoned by the US in 2018 under Trump’s administration, prompting Iran to scale back its commitments. Efforts to revive the agreement have seen little progress, with Iran insisting it will not negotiate under US pressure or sanctions.
