Dimple Yadav Detained During March to Jantar Mantar, SP Alleges

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav was detained by Delhi Police on Monday while marching from Parliament towards Jantar Mantar in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest demanding accountability over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in competitive examinations, alleged by the party sources in a post on X.

The SP alleged that Dimple Yadav and other party leaders were detained during the march. The development came hours after police and protesters clashed in Delhi as demonstrators attempted to march towards Parliament.

SP Condemns Detention

The Samajwadi Party condemned the detention of Dimple Yadav and other SP leaders, as well as the reported use of force against protesting students.

A delegation of MPs led by Dimple Yadav had marched through Delhi, raising slogans over alleged mismanagement and irregularities in competitive examinations.

Police Use Tear Gas as Protesters Attempt March

Earlier in the day, police and security personnel used tear gas to disperse thousands of protesters who had gathered at Jantar Mantar and planned to march peacefully towards Parliament, located around two kilometres away.

The protest was organised by the Cockroach Janta Party, a satirical digital outfit led by Abhijeet Dipke, which has been demanding reforms and accountability in the education system following alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including paper leaks.

Sonam Wangchuk's Hunger Strike

Activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the protest and began an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on June 28. However, he was shifted to a hospital by police on Saturday, with authorities citing health concerns.

In a handwritten note issued from the hospital on Monday, Wangchuk said his fast would end only if the government took responsibility for alleged paper leaks and other failures in the education system, or if MPs and political leaders assured him that they would raise the issue in Parliament.
