Dental student kills self in Bengaluru, family alleges torture by college staff
A dental student allegdedly died by suicide at her home in the Chandapura area of Bengaluru. However, the family has accused college staff of mentally harassing her, according to reports.
The student, Yashaswini, was studying dentistry at a private college in Bommasandra. According to a complaint filed by her mother, some lecturers often humiliated her in front of other students. They allegedly made comments about her skin colour and questioned her dream of becoming a doctor, as per reports.
The family also alleged that lecturers made remarks about her clothes and used rude language when she once complained about eye pain. The complaint claims that Yashaswini was reportedly not allowed to attend seminars and was treated unfairly in her studies, including not being given radiology case work.
Based on the complaint, Suryanagar Police have registered a case against five lecturers, including the college principal. Police have started an investigation.
Yashaswini’s family has demanded strict action against those responsible. The incident has raised concerns about mental pressure and the treatment of students and youngsters.
