Delhi’s Safdarjung recorded its coldest temperature in December since 1987, with a temperature of 4.9°C.

On the early morning of Wednesday, Delhi experienced a temperature drop to 4.9°C, marking the coldest temperature recorded so far.

According to officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the last time the station recorded a minimum temperature below 5°C was on December 6, 1987, when it was 4.1°C.

Not all areas of the capital experienced a cold wave or temperatures below 5°C on December 11. Minimum temperature data for the day was recorded at 12 out of 15 stations in the city.

Only three stations – Ayanagar, Lodhi Road, and Safdarjung – reported temperatures of 5°C or lower. Similarly, just four stations – Ayanagar, Narela, Najafgarh, and Safdarjung – experienced cold wave conditions.

Earlier, on November 28, Delhi had experienced its coldest night of the season, with the minimum temperature dropping to 10.1°C, as reported by the IMD.

Notably, Delhi is grappling with severe pollution, with the AQI (Air Quality Index) worsening day by day. To address the alarming pollution levels, the Supreme Court has directed the implementation of all Graded Response Actions.
