Two people were killed and at least four others injured in a multi-vehicle pile-up on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Kota district early Friday, after two trucks allegedly crashed into a stationary truck and a utility vehicle.

Stationary Truck Suspected to Have Triggered Crash

The collision occurred between Balapur and Gopalpura, according to police. The truck, travelling from Delhi towards Mumbai, had reportedly been parked along the expressway for nearly two days after developing a technical fault.

A team of mechanics had arrived in a Bolero utility vehicle to repair the truck when two trucks approaching from behind at high speed allegedly rammed into the stationary vehicles, eyewitnesses told police.

One person travelling in the Bolero died at the scene, while another injured person succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital.

One of the deceased was identified as Sachin, a resident of Kotputli near Jaipur. Police are working to establish the identity of the second victim.

Police Clear Damaged Vehicles, Traffic Hit

Police personnel reached the accident site and used cranes to move the damaged vehicles to the side of the road to prevent further collisions.

The pile-up caused a lengthy traffic jam on one side of the expressway. Traffic took around two hours to return to normal, according to the report.

Police Question Truck's Prolonged Parking

Preliminary findings indicate that the truck had remained parked on the expressway for nearly 48 hours despite the potential danger to motorists.

Police questioned why the vehicle had not been removed from the highway, where vehicles routinely travel at speeds exceeding 100 kmph.

Further action will be taken based on a complaint filed by the victims’ families, police said.
