Delhi Businessman’s Home Burgled Of ₹2.5 Crore Cash, Gold And Diamonds; Two Domestic Helps Suspected

A Delhi businessman’s home in Timarpur was allegedly burgled of cash, gold and diamond jewellery worth around ₹2.5 crore while he and his family were in Australia, police said on Wednesday. Two domestic helps, who had keys to the residence, have emerged as the prime suspects and are currently absconding.

Burglary Came To Light On Sunday

Businessman Anuj Gupta lives on the first floor of Rivera Apartments on Mall Road in Timarpur, while his younger brother, Anshul, stays in another portion of the flat.

Anuj had travelled to Australia with his family on September 2. On Saturday, Anshul left for his shop and returned home at around 10 pm. However, the burglary was not noticed at the time.

The theft was discovered on Sunday morning when Anuj’s nephew, Ujjwal, reached the first floor and found the flat’s door open. Inside, cupboards had been opened and belongings were scattered across the rooms.

Cash and valuable jewellery kept in the cupboards were missing.

Anshul subsequently informed the police, following which a team from Timarpur Police Station reached the spot and began investigating the case.

Two Domestic Helps Under Scanner

As part of the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the apartment complex and nearby areas. During the preliminary probe, investigators noticed the movements of two men who had allegedly entered the flat on Saturday night.

The suspects were identified as domestic helps Anil and Vicky. Police said both men had keys to the house and have been absconding since the burglary.

Investigators suspect that the two may have known about the cash and valuables kept inside the residence. Their alleged role in the theft is being examined.

Businessman Returns From Australia

After learning about the burglary, Anuj returned to Delhi from Australia and provided police with details of the stolen valuables.

The total value of the missing cash, gold and diamond jewellery has been estimated at around ₹2.5 crore.

Police have formed several teams to trace the two suspects. Raids are being conducted at their possible hideouts, while investigators are examining CCTV footage and tracking their movements and contacts.

The police are also probing whether the two suspects allegedly acted alone or had assistance from others.

Further investigation is underway.
