A 26-year-old medical student from Dehradun was found dead inside a car in the city’s Patel Nagar area, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The incident came to light after her family reported being unable to contact her for hours.

Police said the woman had been residing in rented accommodation while pursuing her studies at a local medical college. She had last spoken to her father the previous night, during which she appeared visibly distressed, the family told authorities.

When repeated attempts to reach her failed, her father began searching for her at her residence and on the college campus. Her body was eventually found inside an unattended vehicle in Patel Nagar. Police broke a window to gain access and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.

In their complaint to the police, the family alleged that the young woman died by suicide and accused a doctor at her institution of abetting the act. Based on the complaint, the police have filed a case against the individual. Officials said they are examining the matter from all possible angles.

A senior police officer noted that the student had seemed emotionally troubled during her last phone call with her family, and their inability to contact her afterward heightened their concern.

The student’s medical college issued a statement confirming that she had been undergoing treatment for a mental health condition and had previously attempted suicide. The college stated that she had made an attempt on December 31 last year, and that her guardians had submitted a written acknowledgement of her condition to the institution.

Authorities are now investigating potential negligence, abetment, or other contributing factors in the incident. Police said they will question college personnel, examine evidence from the student’s accommodation, and review her recent communications as part of the inquiry.

The tragic death has sparked a renewed discussion about the need for stronger mental health support systems within educational institutions. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to establish the events leading up to the student’s death.
