Karnataka Congress president and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar is set to be sworn in as the state's next chief minister on June 3, party sources announced on Saturday.

At a press conference, it was announced that the swearing-in ceremony would be held at Lok Bhavan’s Glass House complex.

However, the exact timing of the event would be announced later.

As per reports, the ceremony would be conducted in a simple manner.

This development comes after the meeting held at the Congress high command with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi formally finalising the leadership transition.

Before attending the meeting, Shivakumar visited the Karnataka legislature building, paying respects at the Vidhana Soudha amid a large gathering of supporters.

The announcement comes amid heightened political activity within the ruling Congress following the resignation of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on May 28.

Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot accepted Siddaramaiah’s resignation and dissolved the Council of Ministers. However, Siddaramaiah has been asked to continue in office until the formation of a new government.
