CPI-M Top Brass Under Radar as Kerala Police Strengthens Probe Team in ED Attack Case

Kerala Police have expanded the special investigation team probing the alleged attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials at the residence of former Chief Minister and CPI-M leader Pinarayi Vijayan, paving the way to question senior party leaders.

The team has been strengthened with the induction of additional Sub-Inspectors and Civil Police Officers due to the seriousness of the case and the suspicion of a larger conspiracy. Investigators are preparing to issue notices next week to CPI-M State Secretary M. V. Govindan, Thiruvananthapuram District Secretary V. Joy, and former minister V. Sivankutty, directing them to appear for questioning.

Raid Triggered Violent Confrontation

The incident occurred on May 27, when ED officials arrived to raid the rented residence of Pinarayi Vijayan, where his daughter Veena Vijayan resides. The raid was linked to an ongoing investigation involving her IT firm, Exalogic, and its financial dealings with the Kochi-based mining company, CMRL.

By expanding the probe team, investigators are treating the case as more than a routine clash between political cadres and central agency officials. The focus has shifted to establishing the sequence of events and scrutinising phone communications made immediately prior to and during the confrontation to determine if there was a coordinated effort to mobilize crowds and impede the raid.
