A movie-like incident has unfolded in a Rajasthan jail, where two murder convicts serving life sentences have been granted 15 days’ parole to get married after being in a live-in relationship at an open jail, as per reports.

Convicts Priya Seth (31) and Hanuman Prasad (29) have reportedly been in a relationship for the past year while serving their sentences at an open jail, according to reports.

Seth was convicted in the murder of a 28-year-old businessman, whom she had met through Tinder. She allegedly held him hostage and demanded ransom from his family. After the ransom was paid, she reportedly killed the businessman.

Prasad, meanwhile, is serving a life sentence for the 2017 murder of a man, his three sons, and his nephew, allegedly following an affair with the victim’s wife.

After developing a relationship in prison, the two reportedly decided to marry in Barodameo, Prasad’s native town. Following directions from the Rajasthan High Court, the district parole advisory committee has reportedly approved 15 days’ parole to allow the marriage, as per reports.

The open-air jail camp is part of a prison reform initiative under the Rajasthan Prisoners Open Air Camp Rules, 1972. Inmates are allowed to work outside during the day and must return to the open jail every evening. A six-member committee decides which inmates are transferred from regular prisons to open-air camps.

The two convicts were shifted from Jaipur Central Jail to Sanganer Open Jail about a year ago, according to multiple reports.

The decision to grant parole to Seth and Prasad has sparked both interest and outrage. And the families of victims are reportedly set to challenge the parole order.
