The Congress has sought the removal of Amit Malviya as the national convenor of BJP’s IT cell, after a member of the RSS levelled allegations of sexual exploitation against him.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said at a press conference in New Delhi, “It has come to light by members of the RSS who are on record – a gentleman by the name of Shantanu Sinha related to Rahul Sinha, an office bearer of the BJP in Bengal has alleged that Mr Amit Malviya, the head of BJP IT Cell has indulged in nefarious activities, he has indulged in sexual exploitation of women not only in 5-star hotels but also in BJP offices in Bengal.”
Shrinate has demanded Malviya’s immediate removal from his influential position for a fair probe.
Slamming the newly-elected Modi government, the Congress spokesperson Supriya said, “We seek from the BJP justice for women in Bengal; whether it is Hathras, Lakhimpur, our most decorated athletes, or Bilkis Bano, the Prime Minister has consistently given political patronage to the perpetrators of crime.”
Malviya sends legal notice to Sinha
Meanwhile, Malviya has sent a legal notice to Santanu Sinha on June 8 to remove the “false and derogatory post and tender an unconditional apology” within three days from the receipt of the legal notice, failing which legal proceedings, both civil and criminal, will be initiated against him.
As per the legal notice, since the slanderous social media post has been reported by a section of the media having a wide readership, especially in Delhi, it has impacted Malviya’s reputation beyond West Bengal.
“Resultantly, your defamatory post has lowered the image of my client in the eyes of the public. That your post is a serious allegation against my client who is a respectable member of society and has further dampened his reputation while causing him mental agony. Your alleged post is a deliberate intent to mislead the public and malign the reputation of my client,” the legal notice read.
Santanu Sinha’s social media post had been highlighted by the opposition parties, including Congress and Trinamool Congress, and both held press meetings on the issue.
The post was written on May 7 on Facebook.
