Sandeep Singh of Sahara Jan Seva Sanstha said the organisation received information about the accident through its control room. He said there were around 11 to 12 passengers in the vehicle. Four people died at the scene, while seven to eight others sustained injuries and were rescued. Three bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital, while one was taken to AIIMS Bathinda.
Victims Identified As Barmer Residents
Dr Lavdeep Singh of the Civil Hospital said three bodies were brought to the hospital at around 6.30 a.m. and kept in the mortuary. The remaining injured were taken to AIIMS Bathinda for treatment.
He added that Aadhaar cards and other documents confirmed that all the victims were residents of Barmer district in Rajasthan.
Police Investigation Underway
Harvinder Singh Sara said the group, comprising family members and family friends from Barmer, was travelling to the Amarnath Yatra in a hired Tempo Traveller when it crashed into a truck parked on the roadside.
He said four people died on the spot, while eight others were admitted to hospital and are undergoing treatment.
The officer added that the deceased belonged to different families and included what appeared to be a father and daughter. He said the victims included a man aged around 50 years and a young woman aged about 24 to 25 years.
