Class 11 girl in UP allegedly punished for asking for sanitary pad

A girls’ school student in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly was allegedly punished for asking for a sanitary pad, as per reports. She was reportedly asked to stand outside her classroom for an hour.

The girl reportedly asked for the sanitary pad during her examination. As per reports, the incident caused an uproar and an official inquiry was initiated.

The girl requested a sanitary pad from the principal, but was asked to leave and stand outside the class, according to a complaint filed by the girl’s father. The girl was at the school to appear for an exam and realised that her period had started, as per reports.

The principal allegedly made her stands for an hour outside the class, stated the complaint.

A complaint was also filed with State Women’s Commission, Department of Women Welfare, District Inspector of Schools, and District Magistrate.

Last week, a Class 8 girl in Surat died by suicide due to the school teachers asking her to stand outside the class near the washroom due to non-payment of fees.

The family had assured that they would pay the fees in 2-3 days, but still, the teachers had allegedly asked the girl to stand outside the class.

Due to fear of punishment, the girl then denied going to school and was staying at home. When on Monday evening she hung  herself from a fan in her house with a dupatta, as per reports.

The police have started an investigation into the matter, and the school has denied these allegations made by the family members of the deceased.
