CID arrests former Andhra Intelligence Chief in harassment case filed by actress

Senior IPS officer and former Intelligence Chief of Andhra Pradesh, PSR Anjaneyulu, has been arrested by the Hyderabad CID in connection with a harassment case filed by Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Jethwani, as per reports.

Anjaneyulu was reportedly taken into custody from his residence in Hyderabad and later transferred to Andhra Pradesh for further investigation.

Actress Kadambari Jethwani had earlier filed a complaint alleging harassment by Andhra Pradesh police during the tenure of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The case stemmed from a land scam allegation made by a YSR Congress leader, which led to the arrest of the actress and her family members last year.

Following her arrest, Jethwani accused three senior IPS officers — PSR Anjaneyulu, Kanthi Rana Tata, and Vishal Gunni — of misconduct. She alleged that the officers were involved in her illegal arrest and detention, and that Anjaneyulu had threatened her to withdraw a case she had filed earlier against a corporate executive in Mumbai. She claimed the executive used political influence in Andhra Pradesh to orchestrate her arrest and tarnish her public image.

In response, the Andhra Pradesh police launched an internal investigation, leading to the suspension of officers from the 1992, 2004, and 2010 IPS batches for misconduct and dereliction of duty.

Anjaneyulu, who was the state intelligence chief at the time, has been reportedly accused of abusing his official position by directing the actress’s arrest without a formal FIR. According to the suspension order, he allegedly called over the other officers and instructed them to carry out the arrest prematurely.

Kanthi Rana Tata, the former Vijayawada Commissioner, was charged with failing to supervise the investigation properly and for issuing arrest orders based on oral instructions. Vishal Gunni was charged with neglecting to verify the complaint thoroughly before making the arrest.
