A viral video showing utensils being washed on a bathroom floor at New Delhi Sweets in Korba, Chhattisgarh, has prompted a food safety inspection.

The clip, recorded by a customer, showed a staff member sitting on the bathroom floor and washing utensils. The video later circulated on social media, raising concerns over hygiene practices at the popular sweet shop.

In the video, customer also questioned an employee about why the utensils were being cleaned inside the bathroom.

“This is just an emergency situation, since the past 2-3 days,” the employee replied.

Later, the customer then questioned whether such a practice would also be followed at home.

Management Gives Explanation

The restaurant manager said staff meals were brought from the main branch and heated in a pressure cooker before employees ate them at different times.

According to him, the vessels were supposed to be returned to the main branch the following day. However, the cleaning staff may have washed them at the outlet when the external water supply was unavailable.

The management also cited problems with the water supply and said the designated washing area was not properly organised.

Food safety officials said both explanations were being considered as part of the investigation.

Notice Issued, Corrective Measures Ordered

Food safety officer Sangharsh Mishra said the management had been directed to rectify the washing area and comply with prescribed hygiene standards, as per India Today.

Officials issued a notice to the establishment over the concerns found during the inspection. Further legal action will be proposed to senior officials after reviewing the matter.

The department also said the outlet may have to temporarily suspend operations to complete the required corrective work.

New Delhi Sweets will be allowed to reopen only after a follow-up inspection confirms that the necessary improvements have been made.
