Police on Sunday recreated the crime scene at Lohagad Fort near Pune, Maharashtra, as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged murder of Ketan Agarwal. The reconstruction was carried out with the accused, Ketan’s fiancée Siya Goyal, to establish the sequence of events on the day of the alleged crime.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Lonavala division) Gajanan Tompe said the crime scene was recreated based on Siya’s account. Senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police, were present during the reconstruction.
“Today, according to Siya’s description, we recreated the crime scene at the Lohagad Fort. Superintendent of Police (SP) and other senior officials were also present during the recreation,” Tompe told the agecny.
He added that Siya remains an accused in the case and that the investigation is continuing.
The reconstruction
Police used a fibre-made dummy during the reconstruction. Officials said that during the exercise, Siya revealed details of the alleged conspiracy.
According to a senior police officer, Siya admitted during questioning and the crime scene reconstruction that she and her associate, Chetan, had planned to kill Ketan Agarwal.
As per the alleged plan, Siya was to walk to a higher point at Lohagad Fort and pretend to tie her shoelaces. While she bent down, Chetan was to approach Ketan from behind and attack him.
Police sources said the reconstruction indicated that Chetan allegedly pushed Ketan from behind, causing him to lose his balance and fall nearly 300 feet into a deep gorge. Ketan reportedly died on the spot.
Police have video-recorded Siya’s alleged confession during the reconstruction, along with the entire reenactment, and further investigation is underway.
The Plan
The investigation has also revealed that Siya and Chetan had allegedly searched online for ways to kill Ketan Agarwal.
According to reports, the duo had visited Lohagad Fort before the incident to allegedly rehearse the murder. They had also prepared and practised responses in case they were questioned by police.
Investigators further found that the accused had allegedly planned to disguise themselves during the crime to avoid suspicion.
Earlier reports stated that Siya and Chetan had systematically deleted their phone chat history and cleared their recycle bins before and after the alleged murder. Their mobile phones have been sent to a forensic laboratory to recover deleted chat logs, officials said.
