Chandigarh Cop Shot Dead By Teen Son After Dispute Over Marriage Plans

A Chandigarh Police head constable was allegedly shot dead inside his government residence by his 18-year-old son following a dispute over the teenager’s demand to marry his girlfriend, police said.

Nitin Singh, posted in the accounts branch at the police headquarters, was found dead with a gunshot injury to his head at his Sector 22 residence on Friday. Police said he had argued with his son, Armaan, the previous evening.

Son Wanted To Marry Girlfriend Immediately

According to police, Armaan had been pressuring his parents to arrange his marriage and wanted to marry his girlfriend immediately. His parents reportedly told him to wait until he turned 21.

Police officer Sudesh Kumar told PTI that Armaan had also wanted his parents to bring the girl to their home, but they refused. He had also allegedly been demanding money from his parents for various needs.

A countrymade pistol was recovered from the residence.

Mother Escaped And Alerted Neighbours

Police said Armaan allegedly tried to harm his mother by grabbing her by the neck after the shooting. She managed to escape, ran to the rooftop and alerted neighbours.

A neighbour told police that Armaan allegedly attempted to make it appear that an outsider had entered the house and shot his father.

Armaan has been arrested. Police officer Kumar said the teenager showed no remorse over the incident.

Armaan Was Out On Bail In Earlier Case

Police said Armaan was already out on bail in a separate case involving the deaths of two brothers earlier this year.

According to the police, Armaan had been driving his friend’s Mahindra Thar when the vehicle hit a motorcycle carrying the two brothers in Manimajra. Both siblings were killed in the crash. Armaan was arrested in that case and later released on bail.
