The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that students enrolled in ‘dummy schools’ will be banned from appearing class 12 board exams, as per reports.

The rule will apply to the 2025-26 cycle, noted the reports.

The dummy schools allow students to enrol into them and does not require regular attendance. It enables students appearing for competitive exams for medical and engineering courses. At the end of the year, they appear for board exams.

The new rules will reportedly mean that the students will have to attend school and if they do not meet the 75% attendance mark or are not present during the surprise school checks by the board, they would not be allowed to sit in the board exams.

As per reports, exemptions will be considered to the rule for medical emergencies, participation at national and international sports events, and for other serious causes.

The onus of not enrolling a ‘dummy schools’ and having the sufficient attendance lies on the students and parents, the board reportedly said.

The board reportedly noted that the affected students may approach National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to appear for their year-end examination.
