CBSE asks schools to update third language details for Class VI by May 31. The Central Board of Secondary Education has directed all affiliated schools to complete compliance related to the introduction of a third language (R3) in Class VI, reiterating that the details must be updated on the OASIS portal by May 31, 2026.

Earlier CBSE issued a circular on April 9, 2026, which outlined the rollout of the third language requirement under the National Curriculum Framework for (NCS-SE) 2023. Following this, many schools uploaded their selected R3 language on the Online Affiliated School Information System (OASIS), while CBSE noted irregularities and incomplete submission in several cases.

The CBSE has termed the OASIS updation mandatory and asked schools that have not yet complied to finalise and upload their language choices at the earliest. Schools that have entered incorrect or non-compliant options have also been given an opportunity to revise the details within the same deadline.

This directive is aimed at ensuring uniform implementation across all affiliated schools before the start of the 2026-27 academic session, as per board. It also aligns with the broader goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises multilingualism and includes at least two Indian languages that should be implemented until July 1, 2026.
