CAIT calls for a fresh review of the GST system after six years of its implementation
Six years of GST system completed
CAIT suggests making GST simple and stable
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has demanded a fresh review of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system. It has also recommended forming a special committee, to suggest ways to reduce regulations on traders under multiple laws and the indirect taxation system.
Six years GST system
The GST system was implemented in the country on July 1, 2017. On the sixth anniversary of its implementation, CAIT has suggested revisiting the GST system, in a statement released on July 1, 2023. CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal reportedly said that the GST tax system should be made stable and simplified by removing the current anomalies.
Formation of a special task force
Khandelwal suggested the formation of a special task force and said that the committee should be given the responsibility to suggest measures on how to reduce the multiplicity of laws and regulations imposed on traders. The committee should also suggest ways to increase tax revenue and prevent fake billing, tax evasion, and wrong inputs.
More than 1200 changes were made to the rules within six years after the implementation of GST. However, frequent changes in the rules have led to confusion among the traders time and again.
