Devyani Rana was declared the winner in the Nagrota Assembly bypoll after she defeated her nearest rival, Harsh Dev Singh of the J&K National Panthers Party (JKNPP) by a margin of over 21,000 votes.
The candidate of the ruling National Conference (NC) party, Shamim Begum finished a distant third with just over 10,000 votes polled in her favour.

Counting of votes begins in Mizoram bypolls amid tight security
In Mizoram, the counting of votes for the Dampa Assembly bypoll began at 8 a.m. under tight security arrangements. Mamit District Election Officer Lalnunfela Chawngthu said that postal ballots are being counted first, followed by EVM votes, with a total of five rounds of counting being conducted at the Mamit district headquarters.
Votes are being counted in a single counting hall equipped with nine counting tables, including one dedicated to postal ballots. Each table is supervised by a counting supervisor and two assistants, while central observers appointed by the Election Commission are monitoring the entire process.
The bypoll, held peacefully on November 11, recorded a high voter turnout of 83.07% out of 20,790 eligible voters, including 10,185 women. The election was necessitated due to the death of MNF legislator Lalrintluanga Sailo on July 21.
This bypoll is being seen as a major test for the ruling ZPM led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, with the result likely to influence the upcoming Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) elections on December 3 and the Aizawl Municipal Corporation polls later this year.
For the MNF, the election is crucial because a defeat would reduce its strength to nine in the 40-member Assembly, threatening its eligibility for the Leader of Opposition (LoP) post, which requires at least 10 MLAs. The BJP, which has two MLAs, is contesting this mixed-population seat to strengthen its base in the Christian-majority border state.
Vote counting begins through EVM in Anta, Rajasthan
In Rajasthan’s Anta Assembly seat, after the counting of ballot papers, counting through EVMs has also started. Voting is being counted at Baran Government College, where candidates and supporters were seen enthusiastic as counting began.
Vote counting begins for Jubilee Hills by-election
Counting for the Jubilee Hills by-election began at 8 a.m. at the Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Stadium in Yusufguda, with 42 counting tables arranged. Counting will be completed in 10 rounds, after which final results will be announced. Heavy security and Section 144 are in place around the counting center.
BJP claims record victory in Nuapada, Odisha
BJP spokesperson Satyabrata Panda claimed that the party will win the Nuapada by-election by a record margin—its first major test after coming to power in Odisha under CM Mohan Charan Majhi. He dismissed former CM Naveen Patnaik’s “vote theft” allegations as political frustration.
Results of Nagrota and Budgam, Jammu & Kashmir
The counting process for the Nagrota and Budgam Assembly by-elections began at 8 a.m. Early trends are expected from 9 a.m., and final results are likely by noon.
Reason for Tarn Taran by-election in Punjab
The Tarn Taran seat fell vacant after the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal. The by-election was held on November 11 with a voter turnout of 60.95%.
Reason for Anta by-election in Rajasthan
The Anta seat was vacated after BJP MLA Kanwarlal Meena was sentenced to three years in a case of pointing a pistol at an SDM, which led to disqualification. The seat saw a high 80.32% voter turnout.
