Bus falls into 70-metre gorge in Uttarakhand, Gujarati devotees among dead

A tragic road accident shook the Narendra Nagar region of Tehri district in Uttarakhand today, after a bus carrying nearly 28 passengers, including devotees from Gujarat, en route to the Kunjapuri Temple, plunged into a gorge nearly 70 meters deep near the Kunjapuri–Hindolakhal stretch, according to reports.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has reportedly confirmed deaths of five Gujarati devotees, while 23 passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.

Following the alert, the District Magistrate, police teams and SDRF units reached the spot to the rescue.

According to initial reports, the death toll may rise, given the severity of the accident and the ongoing evacuation process.

The incident has triggered widespread concern in the region and once again underscores the recurring danger of road accidents on the steep and narrow routes of Uttarakhand’s hill districts.
