Budget 2024-25 land reforms |
Presenting her seventh consecutive budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced several land reforms today.
FM Sitharaman emphasised that the government will formulate economic policies to foster rapid development for future generations. To achieve this, it is crucial to encompass all factors of production: land, labour, and capital. “This endeavour requires collaboration between the central and state governments,” she added.
The proposed land reforms include:
Implementing a unique ID for all land parcels, digitising land maps, and conducting a comprehensive land survey and registration.
GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping will be implemented in urban areas to facilitate land reforms.
Urban and rural land administration, urban planning, and housing-related regulations will be streamlined.
All land parcels in rural areas will be assigned unique plot identification numbers.
Land registration offices will be established in rural areas to enhance accessibility.
Sitharaman stated, “We are committed to resolving land registration disputes. Steps will be taken to digitise land registration and implement plot identification to streamline the process.”
