A bomb threat email reportedly sent to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad, within the metropolitan limits of Hyderabad, triggered a major security alert on Friday evening before authorities confirmed that the threat was a hoax.

Security agencies carried out extensive searches across the airport premises and inspected flights after the threatening email was received around 6.30 pm, airport police officials said.

Teams conducted detailed checks of aircraft, passenger areas and other parts of the airport as part of precautionary security measures.

As per reports, an official from the RGI Airport Police said no suspicious object was found during the operation.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the source of the email.

According to reports, the email claimed that explosive substances had been placed on a Lufthansa flight arriving at the Hyderabad airport from Frankfurt.

Meanwhile, the airport witnessed another security scare on Saturday after authorities reportedly received a fresh bomb threat email claiming that an AirAsia flight arriving from Malaysia would be blown up before reaching Hyderabad.

The second threat prompted heightened security arrangements at the airport, officials said, adding that further details were awaited.

Earlier this year, another bomb scare was reported in the city when the India Meteorological Department office in Hyderabad received an email claiming that 14 RDX bombs had been planted inside the premises.

Police and bomb disposal squads had conducted a thorough search operation at the Meteorological Centre in March 2026, but no explosives were found and the threat was later declared a hoax.
