The body of Siddhant Vitthal Patil, a 26-year-old tech professional originally from Pune, Maharashtra, has been recovered after he drowned in Avalanche Creek while hiking in Glacier National Park on July 6 with his friends.

According to a statement by park rangers, Patil’s body was hard to find due to the challenging terrain and swift currents of the creek. It was eventually discovered by a park visitor and recovered by authorities, reported US media. Rangers identified the body by the clothes and gear worn by Patil while hiking.

The month-long search by park rangers included the use of drones and ground crews.

Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed condolences on X, saying, “Deeply saddened to hear about the tragic loss of Siddhant Vitthal Patil, a young tech professional. Siddhant went missing while hiking at Avalanche Creek in California. Despite our relentless efforts with the respective MEA authorities to understand the situation and expedite the search, we lost him. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. May God give them strength to live through such tough times. ॐ शांति.”
