In a big announcement by the centre today, board exams will take place twice a year. The ministry of education has announced major changes in the education system in accordance with the new National Education Policy (NEP).

Under the new curriculum framework, new textbooks will be developed for the academic session of 2024.

It also said that students in class 11 and 12 will have to study two languages, and at least one of them must be Indian.

Focus on futuristic teaching and learning

The union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan reportedly said that, under the guidance of former JNU chancellor Dr K Kasturirangan, the steering committee has prepared the curriculum for the new NEP. It was  submitted to the government, and the government passed it to NCERT.

NCERT has reportedly formed two committees, the National Curriculum Framework Oversight (NCF) and the National Syllabus and Textbook Committee (NSTC) in a joint workshop.

The minister informed that the first orientation meeting took place today and efforts are being made to prepare futuristic teaching and learning material for class 3 to 12.

Students will be allowed to keep best of the two scores

The board exams are expected to assess the achievement of competencies stated in the curriculum and provide a 'valid and reliable' picture of student performance. The ministry stated that students will also be allowed to retain their best scores under the new curriculum.
