A 20-year-old food delivery agent was injured after an explosion rocked a police outpost in Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, at around 9 pm on Friday. The blast damaged the outpost’s air-conditioning unit, cracked walls and shattered window panes, prompting police to deploy a bomb squad, field unit and fire department to investigate.

A sub-inspector and the delivery agent, who had arrived to deliver food, were inside the outpost when the explosion occurred, officials said.

Shattered Glass Hits Delivery Agent

The injured delivery agent, identified as Rijul, was struck on the head by a piece of glass from a shattered window pane, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of the Trans Hindon Zone told Hindustan Times.

He was rushed to hospital for treatment and is in a stable condition.

The explosion also damaged the air-conditioning unit and caused cracks in the walls. Visuals from the site showed the AC unit blackened following the blast.

Police Suspect AC Unit Malfunction

Police suspect that the explosion may have originated in the air-conditioning unit, but officials said the exact cause has not yet been established.

The field unit, bomb squad and fire department were called to examine the site. The blast did not trigger a fire, officials confirmed.

The DCP said the outpost was housed in an old structure and investigators were checking whether a nearby sewer line or gas pipeline could have contributed to the explosion.

He also ruled out any link to an explosive substance, while stressing that the cause remained under investigation.

Further investigation is underway.
