Women members of parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have written a strongly worded letter to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, condemning the behaviour of opposition MPs during the budget session of Parliament. The BJP women MPs described the incident as a “shameful” and “darkest moment” for India’s parliamentary democracy and demanded strict disciplinary action against those involved.

The letter refers to the events that took place on February 4, 2026, during a discussion in the Lok Sabha. According to the BJP women MPs, opposition members disrupted the proceedings in an aggressive and unorganised manner, “crossing all limits of parliamentary decorum”.

They claimed that the behaviour not only obstructed the functioning of the House but also damaged the image of Parliament in the eyes of the public.

In their complaint, the BJP women MPs alleged that opposition MPs entered the well of the House without permission, climbed onto the table of the house, and threw official government documents towards the chair. The letter stated that such acts showed complete disregard for parliamentary rules, traditions, and the authority of the speaker. The MPs said these actions undermined the dignity and sanctity of democratic institutions.

The letter further claimed that the opposition members ignored repeated appeals from the chair to maintain order. Despite warnings and appeals, the disruption continued, forcing the speaker to adjourn the house. The BJP women MPs described this incident as a serious threat to the smooth functioning of Parliament.

The BJP women MPs also expressed concern over what they called the aggressive conduct of certain women MPs from the opposition. According to the letter, some opposition members moved aggressively towards the ruling party benches, entered areas meant for government MPs, and surrounded senior ministers while carrying banners and placards. The letter stated that this behaviour created an atmosphere of intimidation inside the House.

The complaint did not end with the disruption inside the Lok Sabha. The BJP women MPs alleged that even after the house was adjourned, opposition MPs continued their protest by rushing to the speaker's chamber. They claimed that during this confrontation, the Speaker was subjected to serious verbal insults, which they described as “deeply disrespectful” and unacceptable.

In their letter, the BJP women MPs stressed that such incidents set a dangerous precedent for parliamentary democracy. They warned that if such behaviour is not dealt with firmly, it could encourage further indiscipline and weaken public faith in democratic institutions.

The MPs urged Speaker Om Birla to take strict and exemplary action against the opposition members involved in the incident. They said that maintaining discipline and respect for parliamentary procedures is essential for the healthy functioning of democracy. The letter emphasised that Parliament is the highest democratic forum of the country and must be conducted with dignity, restraint, and mutual respect.

As of now, there has been no official response from the opposition parties regarding the allegations made in the letter. The matter is expected to be reviewed by the speaker’s office in accordance with parliamentary rules and procedures.
