BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi on Monday demanded a probe into Congress’ former president Sonia Gandhi having links to George Soros, a US-based businessman allegedly involved in destabilising the ‘Modi-government’.

Trivedi was addressing the media today when he accused Gandhi of having connections with an organisation funded by the George Soros Foundation, after the ruling party and the Opposition Congress had clashed in the parliament last week.

On December 5, BJP’s Sambit Patra had alleged Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, of having connections with Soros and Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).

Trivedi said that before every Parliament session in India, a report emerges from national or international institutions.

“Is this pattern a mere coincidence or an anti-India effort?” asked Trivedi.

“There is an institution named Forum for Democratic Leaders in the Asia-Pacific (FDL-AP) and it is said this is a non-profit organisation to promote democracy in Asia-Pacific. One of the ‘co-presidents’ of the organisation is former Congress president Sonia Gandhi,” said Trivedi.

George Soros is listed as one of the donors for the FDL-AP.

The BJP requested a thorough discussion in the Parliament and a proper investigation as well.

Notably, the FDL-AP Foundation has expressed its views to treat Kashmir as a ‘separate entity’.

“This association between Sonia Gandhi and an organisation that has backed the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation expresses the influence of foreign entities on India’s internal affairs and the political impact of such connections.” said the BJP.

The website of the organisation mentioned one of its donors as Open Society Foundations,  a US-based grantmaking network founded by business magnate George Soros.

“Mr George Soros is the same person who has openly claimed that he has put up $1 billion to destabilise the Modi government,” said Trivedi.

A total of 11 notices were presented on Monday’s session in Parliament to raise issues under Rule 267, including one by NDA MPs, to discuss the “rising threats to national security due to alleged nexus between a political party and some organisations working against India”.

However, the Opposition was not ready to discuss the topic.

“Rahul Gandhi’s press conference on Adani was live telecast by George Soros-funded OCCRP, which Gandhi used as a source to criticise Adani. It shows nothing but their strong and dangerous relationship and highlights their attempts to derail the Indian economy,” wrote BJP on Sunday on X.
