After a sweeping majority, the BJP-led NDA alliance is going to form government in Bihar, with Nitish Kumar as the CM candidate.

Voting for the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 was held on 6 November (first phase) and 11 November (second phase). This time, Bihar recorded the highest-ever voter turnout. Together, both phases saw an average voter turnout of 67.13%. 

Tejashwi Yadav gains lead 

Tejashwi Yadav leads in Raghopur constituency with 10,276 votes after trailling for 23 rounds. 

So far BJP have won 8 seats, JDU 6. RJD 1 and LJPRV 1.

A tough contest is visible within the NDA alliance as well. JDU has taken the lead over BJP, appearing ahead on 81 seats, while BJP is leading on 78 seats. On the other hand, RJD is leading on 35 seats and Congress on 7 seats.

According to the current figures, NDA is leading on 160 seats and the Mahagathbandhan on 79 seats. These numbers are based on trend data.

In the early trends, a strong contest is visible between RJD and BJP. While BJP is leading on 56 seats, RJD has emerged as the largest party with a lead on 58 seats. At present, NDA is ahead on 97 seats, and the Mahagathbandhan is ahead on 70 seats. These are early trends.

According to the early trends, Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM has opened its account. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party is also performing strongly.

Counting has begun. Postal ballots will be counted first, followed by EVM votes. Today it will finally be known who becomes the CM—Nitish Kumar or Tejashwi Yadav.

Nitish Kumar remembers Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru before results

Before the results, Nitish Kumar paid tribute to India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary. He wrote on X:

“Respectful tribute to India’s first Prime Minister, the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on his birth anniversary.”

Questions had been raised about Nitish Kumar’s health, but he appeared very active during the campaign. He even participated in roadshows in an open jeep during heavy rain. Tejashwi Yadav and several opposition leaders had been questioning his health.

Counting begins at 8 am

Counting of nearly 5 crore votes cast across all 243 constituencies of Bihar will take place at 4372 counting tables. Counting of postal ballots will start at 8:00 am, and EVM counting will begin at 8:30 am.

Along with Bihar, results for by-elections held in 7 states and Union Territories will also be announced today.
