As PM Modi Gave Houses to 5 Crore People, Lord Ram Asked When He’d Get One Too: Bihar CM

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has sparked a wide political debate following video footage of his address at a Bharatiya Janata Party event, where he claimed Lord Ram questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi about receiving a pucca house.

Speaking at a party gathering in Patna organised to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service, Choudhary linked the deity’s centuries-long residence in a tent at Ayodhya directly to the Union government's flagship public housing programmes. He asserted that while welfare schemes were delivering permanent brick-and-mortar homes to millions of low-income families across India, the deity was waiting for his own home.

Linking Ayodhya Temple to Welfare Schemes

In the viral video clip, Chief Minister Choudhary framed the long-standing socio-political movement around Ayodhya in relation to central beneficiary schemes.

"Building a temple was never on the BJP's agenda," Choudhary told party workers and attendees. "But Lord Ram was waiting in a tent for around 400 years. Everybody was getting houses; Prime Minister Narendra Modi was providing pucca houses to around 5 crore people, and Lord Ram was also asking when he would give Him a home."

Choudhary added that the ruling party pursued legal avenues across judicial tiers to resolve the land dispute. He noted that the construction of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple was achieved strictly within constitutional bounds after receiving the Supreme Court's landmark verdict in November 2019.

"So we fought legal battles from the lower court to the Supreme Court. Upon getting the blessings of the apex court, PM Modi gave Lord Ram a home in the form of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya," he said.

The consecration ceremony for the Ayodhya temple took place in January 2024, resolving a legal and political dispute that spanned decades. Choudhary highlighted the temple construction, alongside the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, as primary evidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party delivers on its long-standing ideological commitments.
