First-time MLA Bhajanlal Sharma named Rajasthan CM
Sharma succeeded Ashok Gehlot who assumed the office from 2018 to 2023

After Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan gets its new chief minister. Bhajanlal Sharma has been appointed as the CM of Rajasthan.
Following Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) landslide win with 115 seats in the Rajasthan Assembly elections, the face of the CM was long awaited.
The announcement came after a key meeting of the BJP’s newly-elected 115 MLAs, which was held today at 4 p.m.
There will also be two deputy chief ministers in the state - former MP Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa. While Vasudev Devnani has been appointed as the Assembly speaker.
Who is Rajasthan's new CM?
Bhajanlal Sharma, MLA from Sanganer, is originally from Bharatpur. Sharma has been working in the organisation for a long time and has served as the state general secretary for the BJP four times. Sharma has been working as the state general secretary.
The BJP appointed him to contest elections for the first time from a safe seat like Sanganer in Jaipur. Bhajan Lal Sharma defeated Pushpendra Bhardwaj of Congress by winning 1,45,162 votes in his constituency.
Sharma has been part of the ABVP, RSS and the BJP for a long time.
Voting for 199 of the total 200 Assembly seats in Rajasthan was held at over 51,000 polling stations on Nov 25 and the results were declared on Dec 3 in which the BJP won 115 seats and the Congress 69.
The BJP made him contest elections for the first time from a safe seat like Sanganer after cutting the ticket of sitting MLA Ashok Lahoti and this will be his first time in the CM’s seat.
The Sanganer seat is the stronghold of the BJP and Bhajan Lal Sharma won because of this. In view of his long stint in the organisation in Rajasthan, he has been given the top job now.
The BJP high command had made union ministers Rajnath Singh, Vinod Tawde and Saroj Pandey as observers for Rajasthan and the three leaders reached Jaipur this afternoon and held a meeting with the MLAs.
Union minister Rajnath Singh also had a one-on-one meeting with Vasundhara Raje and spoke to BJP national president JP Nadda on phone.
Before the party settled upon Bhajan Lal Sharma as the CM-elect, there were many names doing the rounds and Raje was the front runner for the top job.
