Bengaluru school principal accused of beating 9-year-old with PVC pipe, police launch probe

A shocking case of alleged child abuse has emerged from Bengaluru’s Sunkadakatte area, raising serious questions about student safety and disciplinary practices in private schools. On October 14, 2025, a nine-year-old Class 5 student of New St Mary’s Public School was reportedly assaulted with a PVC pipe by the school principal, with a teacher’s assistance and in the presence of the school owner.
The incident has triggered widespread public outrage and led to a police investigation, with many demanding stricter oversight of how discipline is enforced in educational institutions.
As per reports, the Kamakshipalya police registered a case under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which deals with cruelty to children, also invoking sections covering hurt caused by dangerous weapons and criminal intimidation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Divya Shankar, the mother of the student, has filed a police complaint alleging severe physical abuse of her son Nayan Gowda.
She stated, Nayan was first punished by a teacher identified as Chandrika, who allegedly prevented him from sitting in class and struck him.
About two hours later, the boy was reportedly sent to the principal’s office, where Principal Rakesh Kumar allegedly assaulted him with a CPVC pipe, hitting him on the buttocks, legs, and hands.
When the child tried to escape, Chandrika allegedly restrained him, so the principal could continue the beating. The complaint further states that the school owner, Vijay Kumar—who is also the principal’s father—was present during the incident and not only failed to stop it but encouraged the assault.
The boy returned home with visible injuries, including bleeding and bruises, and was later hospitalised for treatment and psychological trauma. The family also claims the school management warned them to quietly take Nayan’s transfer certificate if they intended to raise any complaint about the incident.
