A 25-year-old migrant worker from Bihar has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly circulating an AI-generated video falsely showing a bomb blast at Vidhana Soudha, the seat of the Karnataka legislature. Police are investigating his motive and whether others were involved in creating or sharing the footage.
The accused, identified as Hazarat Ali, a daily-wage pipe fitter who moved to Bengaluru a few months ago, allegedly uploaded the video to Instagram on Tuesday morning. Police traced the account using digital evidence, including IP logs, and took him into custody.
No explosion occurred at Vidhana Soudha, and the footage was fabricated using artificial intelligence, police said.
How Police Traced the Accused
According to police, the video was uploaded from an Instagram account named ‘jnx_king_h_g’. It showed a man making a gun-firing gesture towards Vidhana Soudha, followed by edited visuals depicting an explosion at the building.
The video carried the caption, “Vidhanasabha Uda Diya Bam se”, suggesting that the legislative building had been blown up.
Authorities detected the footage during digital surveillance and registered a case on Tuesday. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding its creation and circulation, including whether Ali acted alone or received assistance from others.
The case was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to causing alarm, according to the information available. The allegations against Ali have not been established in court, and the investigation is ongoing.
