Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Friday said he was sending sweets and a Raksha Bandhan gift to actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, while calling for an end to hatred, hostility and discrimination in society.
His remarks come after a recent controversy over Ranaut’s “Generation Gutter” comment while criticising protesters at Jantar Mantar. The remark drew criticism from sections of the entertainment industry and public life, while Ramdev had also publicly objected to it, resulting in a direct exchange between the two.
Ramdev Says He Will Call Kangana On Raksha Bandhan
Speaking to reporters, Ramdev said he was sending the gift and sweets to Ranaut by post and that the two sides had given up their differences.
“There should be no hatred in the country for any reason, and there should be no hostility towards one another,” he said.
Ramdev added that disputes should be settled through dialogue and said he would also call Ranaut to wish her on Raksha Bandhan.
Calls For End To Caste And Community Discrimination
Speaking about the wider significance of Raksha Bandhan, Ramdev called for social harmony and said people should not face discrimination on the basis of caste or community.
He referred to the traditional association of Raksha Bandhan with Draupadi and Lord Krishna, as well as the practice of Brahmins tying rakhis to Kshatriyas.
“This country has been a worshipper of knowledge and valour, and Raksha Bandhan is a festival of love between brothers and sisters,” he said.
Ramdev said Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shudras, Dalits, SCs and STs should not face discrimination in society on the basis of caste or community.
He also said that the Vedic perspective does not discriminate on the basis of caste or community, male or female, or gender.
Appeals To Ruling And Opposition Parties
Ramdev also urged political parties to promote unity and send a message against discrimination.
“I would say that ruling and Opposition parties should tie rakhis,” he said, adding that such a gesture could send a message to society against discrimination.
Ramdev Reacts To Nepal Flash Floods
Ramdev also expressed concern over the recent flash floods in Nepal and said members of Patanjali Yoga Samiti and Patanjali Yogpeeth were committed to helping people affected by the disaster.
Describing the situation as a major crisis involving nature and the environment, he said what happened in Nepal was “extremely tragic”.
He said Indians, Nepalis and others had lost their lives in the disaster, while many people had been separated from their loved ones.
