A tragic accident was reported in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district, where a truck carrying 21 labourers skidded off the Hayuliang–Chaglagam border road and plunged into a deep gorge. As per initial reports, 17 workers are feared dead.

Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Milo Kojin confirmed the incident, stating that the crash occurred on a dangerous mountain bend along a narrow and steep stretch of road. The labourers were reportedly heading to a road construction site close to the border when the vehicle lost control.

Local villagers were the first to reach the spot and begin rescue efforts, followed by police, district administration teams, disaster response personnel and the Army. The region’s challenging terrain has slowed down rescue operations, with teams struggling to reach those trapped in the gorge.

Officials said a detailed probe will be carried out to determine whether overspeeding or the poor road condition led to the accident. Workers in these remote border areas routinely face hazardous terrain, unpredictable weather and extremely narrow mountain roads.

Rescue and recovery efforts are still under way.
