Asset declaration shows Nitish Kumar has lowest wealth among Bihar RS candidates

Candidates contesting the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections have begun filing their nomination papers along with declarations of their assets and liabilities. Among those listed, former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has reported the lowest total assets.

According to the affidavit submitted with his nomination, Kumar has total movable and immovable assets worth ₹1.66 crore. In 2025, his total declared assets had stood at only ₹7.87 lakh.

The affidavit states that Kumar holds ₹20,552 in cash, while his movable assets amount to ₹17.91 lakh. These include a 20-gram gold ring and a pearl-studded silver ring valued at around ₹2.37 lakh. He also owns a car purchased in 2015 for ₹11.32 lakh.

Kumar owns a flat in the Sansad Cooperative Society in Dwarka, Delhi. The apartment, measuring about 1,000 square feet, was bought in 2004 for ₹13.78 lakh. Its current estimated value is around ₹1.48 crore.

Another Janata Dal (United) leader, Ramnath Thakur, has declared higher assets than Kumar. Thakur’s total assets amount to ₹3.12 crore, including movable assets worth ₹1.64 crore. His total income for the financial year 2024–25 was reported to be ₹35.77 lakh.

Meanwhile, Nitin Naveen, the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth wing and a Rajya Sabha candidate, has declared movable assets worth around ₹1.16 crore. His wife has movable assets valued at about ₹84 lakh.

According to the affidavit, Naveen does not own any immovable property, while his wife has immovable assets estimated at around ₹1.47 crore. Naveen has declared ₹55,000 in cash and deposits of around ₹62 lakh in various bank accounts. He also owns two cars and has an outstanding loan of approximately ₹32 lakh.
