Assam MLA Aminul Islam from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) was arrested on Thursday after he claimed that the recent Pahalgam terror attack was a 'government conspiracy.' His comments, made in a video that went viral on social media, sparked outrage and prompted action from the Assam Police.

The video, which circulated widely online, showed the MLA suggesting that the deadly attack – in which 28 people, including 26 tourists, were orchestrated by the government.

Following public backlash, the Assam Police registered a case against the MLA under multiple sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

In an official statement, the Assam Police said, “On the basis of a misleading and instigating statement by Dhing MLA, Shri Aminul Islam, which went viral and had the potential to create an adverse situation, Nagaon PS Case No. 347/25 has been registered under Sections 152, 196, 197(1), 113(3), 352, and 353 of the BNS. He has been arrested accordingly.”

The Pahalgam terror attack, carried out by Pakistan sponsored terrorists on Tuesday, has been widely condemned by India and the world. Leaders from across the political spectrum have expressed solidarity with the victims and called for stringent action against terrorism.

The Central government on Thursday briefed leaders of various political parties on the Pahalgam terror attack and heard their views at an all-party meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and addressed by Home Minister Amit Shah.
