‘Are There Two Laws?’: CJP Founder Questions FIR Against Noida Woman Over Remarks On PM Modi

Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has criticised the FIR registered against a Noida woman accused of using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning why similar action has not been taken against BJP leaders and social media users accused of making objectionable remarks.

In a video shared by CJP on X on Friday, Dipke argued that using abusive language was not a criminal offence and questioned what he described as selective action by the authorities.

‘If abusing is a crime, why not act in other cases?’

Referring to the FIR against the woman, Dipke asked why cases had not been registered against BJP IT cell members who, he alleged, had used abusive language against women on social media for years.

“If you are registering cases for abusing, when will cases be registered against those BJP IT cell people who have been using abusive language for women online for years?” he said.

He further alleged that several users openly identifying themselves with the BJP had repeatedly used objectionable language against women while mentioning “Followed by PM Modi” in their social media biographies.

Cites remarks by BJP leaders

Dipke also referred to past remarks made by BJP leaders, questioning why similar legal action had not been taken in those cases.

He mentioned BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, saying his comments against a fellow Member of Parliament were well known. Dipke also referred to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, alleging that a video had surfaced in which he used abusive language towards a cameraperson.

“Are there two laws in this country? There is a separate law for youth and a separate law for BJP and their leaders,” Dipke said.

‘Abusing is not a crime’

Dipke maintained that while abusive language is inappropriate, it should not automatically lead to criminal proceedings.

“Abusing is not a crime. It is a bad thing, explain it to the person that they should not use such language, but why is a case being filed?” he said.

He further claimed that if cases were to be registered solely for abusive language, many would have to be filed against BJP IT cell members and some BJP leaders over their past remarks.

FIR registered against Noida woman

Dipke’s remarks came a day after a Zero FIR was registered at the Expressway Police Station in Noida against Ruchika Singh for allegedly using abusive and objectionable language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 23.

The complaint was filed by Smriti Singh, a resident of Ghaziabad, under Sections 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 353(1) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 356(1) (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police said the Zero FIR will be transferred to New Delhi for further investigation.
