Amit Shah’s Alwar Visit: Students Allegedly Detained Ahead of Planned Black Flag Protest

Rajasthan Police allegedly detained college students in Alwar on Sunday ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit after they planned a protest and black-flag demonstration.

The students were reportedly detained before they could hold the protest at RR College, according to police sources. Their proposed demonstration was linked to the police action against student protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in July.

Students Planned Protest Against Shah

The students intended to raise several issues during Shah’s visit, including the July lathi-charge on protesters associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) movement.

They were also expected to raise concerns over the condition of roads in the area, allegations surrounding the Matsya fisheries scam and the demand to restore student union elections in Rajasthan.

The students had planned to display black flags and demand Shah’s resignation over the handling of the student protests in Delhi.

Shah Scheduled To Address Alwar Rally

Shah, accompanied by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, was scheduled to address a public meeting at Vijay Nagar Ground in Alwar.

During his visit, Shah was also set to launch development projects worth Rs 6,279 crore across Rajasthan, including projects valued at Rs 783 crore in Alwar district.

The preventive detentions came ahead of the minister’s public programme, with police taking the students into custody before their planned demonstration.

Detentions Follow Earlier Actions

The Alwar incident comes amid a series of preventive detentions reported ahead of Shah’s public engagements in recent weeks.

In Pune on August 1, several Maharashtra Youth Congress and Pune City Congress office-bearers were detained before Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval visited the city. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vasant More was also detained in Pune after announcing plans to protest during Shah’s visit. Police described those actions as preventive measures intended to prevent disruption.

CJP Protest Remains Political Flashpoint

The July protests at Jantar Mantar were linked to the student-led movement over the NEET-UG paper leak. Activists participated under different banners, including the All India Students Association and the Cockroach Janta Party.

The police action against protesters has since become a political issue, with Opposition groups demanding Shah’s resignation. Student groups have also alleged that activists continued to face detention despite assurances that punitive action would not follow the end of the protests.
