Amit Shah directs states to identify and deport Pakistani nationals after Pahalgam attack

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly instructed all chief ministers on Friday to identify Pakistani nationals residing in their respective states and ensure their prompt return to Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, as per reports.
This directive is part of a series of steps taken by the Centre in response to the attack, which killed 28 people, including one Nepali national. On Thursday, India suspended all visa services for Pakistani citizens, except medical visas, which will reportedly remain valid until 29 April.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that this decision follows the Cabinet Committee on Security’s resolution to take strict measures against cross-border threats. In addition, Indian nationals in Pakistan have been advised to return at the earliest, while Pakistani citizens in India have been warned to leave before their amended visa terms expire.
Foreign secretary Vikram Misri also confirmed that the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SPES) has been revoked for Pakistani nationals. All previously issued SPES visas stand cancelled, and those currently in India under this scheme have been asked to leave within 48 hours.
The developments come after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a rally in Bihar, vowed strong retaliation. He stated that those responsible for the Pahalgam attack would face punishment “beyond what these terrorists could ever imagine”.
The government continues to implement diplomatic and internal security measures, reportedly aimed at sending a clear message against harbouring or facilitating terrorism.
