Akasa Air pilot dies of heart attack during training in Bengaluru
A 44-year-old pilot of Akasa Air died after suffering a heart attack during a training session in Bengaluru on Thursday, marking a second pilot death from a heart attack in two days.
The airline confirmed that the pilot had a medical emergency while on ground training duty. As per reports, he was immediately given medical attention and taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors could not save him. Akasa Air expressed deep sadness over the loss.
The Airline Pilots' Association of India (ALPA) expressed grief over the incident and called it a serious concern. In statement, the airline said it is providing full support to the pilot’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. This is the second such incident in two days. Earlier, an Air India pilot also died of a heart attack while on layover in Bali.
Further details about the incident have not been shared yet. Such incidents have raised concerns about the health and stress levels of pilots in the aviation industry. Long working hours, irregular schedules, and high responsibility can affect a pilot’s physical and mental health. Airlines usually conduct regular medical check-ups for pilots to ensure their fitness.
However, sudden medical emergencies like heart attacks can still happen without warning, making it important to focus more on health monitoring and stress management.
