Air India, Akasa ask passenger to arrive early amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions

As tensions between India and Pakistan escalate following aerial attacks targeting Jammu and military bases near the western border, major Indian carriers including Air India and Akasa Air have issued advisories urging passengers to arrive at airports at least three hours before scheduled departures.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Air India cited enhanced security protocols mandated by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). "Passengers across India are advised to arrive at their respective airports at least three hours prior to scheduled departure to ensure smooth check-in and boarding. Check-in closes 75 minutes before departure," the airline noted.
Akasa Air echoed the advisory, requesting passengers to reach airports early and undergo mandatory secondary security checks. "Due to enhanced security measures at all airports, only one handbag weighing up to 7 kg is allowed in addition to check-in baggage. Valid government-approved ID is required for entry. We strongly recommend online check-in via our website or mobile app to save time," Akasa said.
This comes after India successfully intercepted drone and missile strikes from Pakistan, triggering blackouts and emergency alerts across Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. As a result, 27 airports, including Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Amritsar, and Jaisalmer, have been shut until May 10. Over 430 domestic flights were cancelled on Thursday alone, following over 300 cancellations a day earlier.
Airlines have also reported high call volumes at customer service centers and expressed solidarity with India’s armed forces.
