Air hostess gold smuggle

In a bizarre case of smuggling gold on a flight, a cabin crew member of an Air India Express flight was nabbed on May 28 with around 1 kg of gold from Kannur International Airport in Kerala.

Working as an air hostess for the airline, 26-year-old Surabhi Khatun was nabbed by the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) upon returning from a flight en route from Muscat, Oman, said officials today.

Khatun managed to smuggle the gold consignment, reportedly concealed in her rectum, said sources closely associated with the development. Officials reportedly recovered 960 g of gold from her in compound form.

She is currently undergoing a legal trial and has been sent to a 14-day judicial custody.
