Ahmedabad records coldest night, temp drops to 12.5°C

Ahmedabad experienced its coldest night of the season so far, with the minimum temperature dropping to 12.5°C, marking a sharp fall over the past three days. Until earlier this week, night temperatures in the city were hovering around 15°C, but the steady decline has made the chill increasingly noticeable, especially during the early morning hours.
The city woke up to clear skies and a crisp morning on Monday, followed by a relatively mild afternoon. The maximum temperature settled at 24.6°C,, while the minimum remained close to normal at 12.5°C.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in Ahmedabad is expected to rise slightly on Tuesday, settling at around 11°C.
IMD data spanning 2020 to 2025 indicates that such a consistent drop in night temperatures during the first week of January has not been observed in recent years.
The cooling trend was felt across Gujarat, with Gandhinagar recording a lower minimum temperature than Ahmedabad at 10.8°C. In the Saurashtra–Kutch region, Rajkot reported a minimum of 10.9°C, while Bhuj recorded 11.°C. Deesa in north Gujarat also saw a minimum temperature of 11.4°C, indicating that the cold has spread across the region and northern parts of the state.
Bhavnagar recorded 14.7°C, while Daman reported a minimum of 17.4°C, Diu 15.0°C, Porbandar 16.7°C, Surat 16.0°C, and Veraval 18.1°C. Okha registered the highest minimum temperature at 19.0°C, close to its normal level.
Coastal areas remained comparatively milder, though still cooler than earlier in the week. Surat recorded a minimum temperature of 17.4°C, Porbandar 14.5°C and Vadodara 13.2°C. Even in these cities, the gradual fall over the past three nights affected overall daytime comfort.
