Captain Sumeet Sabharwal’s 91-year-old father has approached the Supreme Court, demanding a judicially monitored probe into the Ahmedabad plane crash incident, as per reports.

The crash occurred on June 12, when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in the death of 229 out of 230 people on board.

In the writ petition, filed along with the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP), Captain Sabharwal’s father reportedly urged the apex court to treat all previous investigation reports submitted by various agencies as closed and inconclusive.

The plea calls for transferring all evidence and investigation materials to a judicially monitored independent committee to ensure transparency, accountability, and justice for the victims and their families.

The petition also highlights alleged lapses in the initial investigation process and demands that the court oversee the formation of an expert panel to re-examine the technical, operational, and safety factors that led to the crash.

Moreover, the families of four victims have sued the aerospace manufacturers Boeing and Honeywell.

The complaint that was filed on September 16, at Delaware Superior Court mentioned that the locking mechanism for the switch on the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner could be turned off inadvertently or be missing, causing a loss of fuel supply and loss of thrust needed for takeoff, as per reports.
