A biker lost his life after plunging into a deep pit dug on a road in Delhi’s Janakpuri area on Wednesday night. Images circulating on social media show the victim lying at the bottom of the pit alongside his Apache RTR 200 motorcycle. He was reportedly wearing protective riding gear, including a helmet, jacket, and gloves, at the time of the accident.

The deceased has been identified as Kamal, an assistant manager at HDFC Bank’s Rohini branch. According to his family, Kamal was returning home late at night and had spoken to his twin brother, Karan, saying he would reach home within 10 minutes. Shortly after the call, his phone rang multiple times without any response and was later found to be switched off.

Family members said Kamal had last mentioned being in the Janakpuri district centre area. When they were unable to contact him, they searched extensively and visited several police stations. Despite police sharing his last known location, Kamal could not be traced immediately. Hours later, the family was informed that his body had been recovered from the pit.

Taking a jab at the Delhi government, AAP leader and former MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote on X, “Shocking !!! An innocent biker fell into a deep pothole on the road, got stuck, lay there all night, and died. The BJP government in Delhi has learned nothing from the Noida incident. They just keep lying every day. Janakpuri District Center, Delhi.”

Following the incident, the Delhi government said a circular has been issued directing a joint inspection of the site. The inspection team will include the District Magistrate, SDM, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Deputy Commissioner of Police, senior officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), and other concerned authorities. Necessary action will be taken based on the findings.

Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood, the ‘Janakpuri MLA’, has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident.
